Basic Foundations Progress Reel

Here is my Progress Reel for my first Animation Mentor Term, mentored by Chris Chua who has done some great work at Pixar. Having such a dedicated teacher for my first mentor was a surreal blessing. I had a ton of classmates with a lot more experience, they all gave me great motivation, especially Sven and Mike. Cheers

Enjoy!

Goodness Gracious Great Balls...

The animation assignment here is to create a side shot with 2+ balls of different weights. I'm pretty pleased with it, but there were great things Chris Chua pointed out that I can do to plus it. I'll post the revision too.

We got some bounce in Utah too.

My first official bouncing ball, I learned a lot about workflow and the efficiency of layering keys separately rather than keying all attributes for a frame.

I also taught myself how to texture a basketball by shooting some pics and stitching them together.

The first frame is a pose intended to exude EXCITEMENT. My thanks for anything to let me know how I can make the shots tighter.

There's a ton of learning ahead!

My first baby steps

Here is my first walk cycle ever, I wanted to get some outside-Animtation-Mentor work done as classes got going to keep pushing myself. Although it will be a while before I get into character animation, I'd like to start practicing now. My mechanics and workflow will only improve at the rate I'm willing to put in the work.

I started Animation Mentor this week with mentor Chris Chua, an animator over at Pixar. From this first week one thing really stands out, he has a wonderful ability to be at ease no matter who he's talking with and help them feel comfortable as well.

AM Semester 1 start-up 10 days and counting

One small step for this year, one giant leap toward the rest of my life (over dramatic I know). I'm trying to learn how to move convincingly, there's a world of range in which I can fall from Tex Avery's slapstick style to National Geographic dry documentary. The second clip I am aiming for slightly angst, disinterested teenager being told he need so to do/change something. It's the feeling I want to avoid throughout my life. Why block myself off from learning more, growing, or accomplishing something; if I ever want those things sooner or later I will have to do/change something.

More soon, I'm trying a crouch to runcycle. It's winning so far. :{

Exercising the Arm

Here is an assignment from the Springboard class I finished in November. This taught me a ton real fast. All of a sudden I was using motion with an inorganic object. I wasn't shooting for overlap or follow through on this, just the arc of the motions.

I hope ya dig. Getting the block to settle after was a particularly hard thing since I had to deconstrain in then animate it independently.

I start the full blown coarse work for Animation Mentor in 19 days! I'll post up a couple more before then.
